The Bhutto-Zardari Kids Go Public
Bilawal and his younger siblings were publicly unveiled in Multan this July. Each gave a speech that was in English save for some greetings and slogans in Urdu. The speeches were very hollow. The kids spoke on working for the poor, but failed to articulate any pro-poor policies. Asifa spoke of her hope to be able to match her late mother’s achievements, but never mentioned what exactly her mother achieved. She looked a bit uncomfortable with the random jiyalas yelling slogans in her name. I don’t blame her. But it’s clear these kids, whose formative years were not spent in Pakistan, are really Dubaiwallas.
I found a few things interesting.
One, it appears that Bilawal is attempting to imitate his grandfather’s style of speech in English. He’s off to a good start, but the English language’s political utility is really limited in Pakistan today.
Two, after Bilawal raises his voice, the camera pans to Asif Zardari, who has an obvious smirk on his face. The same thing occurred during Bilawal’s infamous scream speech, in which he proved Zardari’s statement that “Bhuttoism begins where logic ends.”

Three, it appears that Jehangir Badr might be their manny (male nanny)/political tutor.

zardari is a bad leader, he is messing up the country

The shock that Bilawal, Asifa and Bukhtawar faced was much much greater. The people like Mr. Arif Rafique cannot realize this. Coming into politics in so tender age is not bed of roses. They still don’t have completed their studies but I really commend them for what they spoke. The same resolve, the same commitment, the same courage to give their lives for this soil like their mother and grandfather.
Those who could not afford Bhutto his daughter and now Zardari, how can they afford Bilawal, Asifa and Bukhtawar.
Rizwan, I’m not quite sure what your point is. The shock they faced was much greater than what? It is certainly commendable for them to honor their late mother in public. Benazir was a good mother; she deserves the posthumous sentimentalism from the kids. But her children have no God-given right to political office. Pakistan is one of the world’s poorest countries; it’s also one of the world’s largest, population-wise. The challenges are many and the scale is immense. Pakistan, today, is going through one of its most trying times. Let the kids play with their toys
– the country needs competent adults to run the show.
Arif Rafiq- Don’t u see the spiritual efforts in a young chap’s speech? He had given his E-Mail Address on the web, media and everywhere and said anyone can express his/her feeling with me, Is that a fake or Drama or a childish spirit? Try to be possesive dude, I think u were child when Bhutto Sahab was alive and if u had watched Bhutto Sahab’s speeches than u shud know that this speech of Bilawal directs us towards early 70′s when Awaam(Masses) get inspired by a leader with his speeches and than he got mandate and he’d shown that what was BHUTTO, Till now every one remembers him and i can say that this guy can revolutionize the Nation. Between it was not his personal wish to come in Politics so soon, CEC of PPP and the Jiyalas(Members) of this party had forced him to do so and that’s what he doing. InshAllah i believe that he can make Pakistan Prosperous Ameen! One more thing Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto(SHAHEED) was a Great Mother and A Great Democratic Leader, Every Politician said on her Death that Pakistan had lost a great Democratic Leader. Bilawal is not being PM now but i can say surely that the time he will come Pakistan as being the candidate of PM he will be the most Competent Guy of Pakistan and most Favourite Chap of AWAAM! God Bless you and all Pakistani’s.. LONG LIVE PAKISTAN!!!
Farhad, I think it’s great that Bilawal is publicly honoring his mother. You are right — his family produced a handful of dynamic political leaders.
But, I’m not quite sure how to make this any clearer: Bilawal is a child with zero experience in managing or planning anything of substance. Pakistan is not a school club or a small grocery store. It is the world’s sixth largest country.
Failed governance by Pakistan’s civilian and military rulers has made it a state today that is highly dependent on the intervention and assistance of outsiders. The cost of military praetorianism and civilian plundering + mismanagement is the loss of sovereignty. Plus, others have to do your work for you.
Pakistanis need to pay their own bills/budgets and resolve their own disputes. You won’t get that with an unproven kid at top. Let Bilawal demonstrate his worth when the time is right.
Let me ask you a question: Would you still favor Bilawal as prime minister if a very compelling candidate rose through the PPP ranks? Let’s say this was a 40+ year old man/woman from a middle to upper-middle class family, well educated (local/abroad), who has served as a mayor of a large city or as a cabinet minister and MNA/MPA, or has been successful in business (e.g. built a company in Pakistan that’s become a global brand). Would you still support Bilawal?
such hollow speeches!!!
what do these kids know of pakistan and Pakistani’s problems when they have spend all these years in Dubai and London??? they just emotionally blackmail people into giving them votes so that they can loot again. They have even changed their names in this disguise… and what is their comparison to Z.A bhutto? these kids cannot even pronounce BHUTTO in urdu and call it bootto :-@
as for leadership, we all know the truth about our “beloved” zardari sahb. same is true for benazir bhutto, she came to power twice by dealing with Americans… in the end, she did choose the right path but was martyred. SO zulfikar ali bhutto was the only TRUE leader of PPP.
and next time Insha Allah, people of Pakistan wont be blackmailed by just emotional slogans.
A very informative and well written post my friend.
In a few words, Zardari is not helping out Pakistani’s. A simple reason of ignorance would be, he doesn’t know how to do it.
We don’t really care about those politicians and big people who doesn’t care about Pakistan.
See the following video, you’ll get a good feel of the crisis

Wake up Pakistani’s, time for us to help Pakistan ourself.
what do you think, are you people not competent to those zardari cum bhutto childern??
ground realities are really very different and pinching….
when musharaf came the loan of pakistan was 30 billion $, when he left it was 38 billion $ and in last 1.5 years it rose to 52 billion $.
sugar was around 30 now it is scarce and around 50-70 per k.g.
petrol prices were lowered in whole world and in our country the prices went high
flour and cement blunders are also coming on surface
us marines are stationing in capital
what we have got from them??? what is their speciality to rule? is this their speciality that they are to mint money and they are from the blood of bhutto???… i remaiend an ardent advocate of B.B. but what is now remaining??
please think calmly, things are not rosy rosy…..
i didnt mention electricity, it was available with maximum unit around Rs.5 and now it is scarce and maximum unit rose upto 8… they are maligning and putting all pressure on previous governemnt but what is their contribution?? these childern dont know what is suffering of sleeping hungry, what is a shelter in coldest months and in hottest months, they dont know what is wages and what are the prices of commodities.! they only know that they are to rule by slogans and loud speeches… they are not true decendants of bhutto, if we say for bhutto thn far competent and intelligent will be fatima bhutto, thn let her come!
What nonsense!!These kids haven’t even come of age and they’re being made to yell political crap. Why is this country being run like an empire or a feudal estate??The West did away with the trend of dynastic politics centuries ago. We’re proudly exhibiting it because we’re still living in the Dark Age,politically that is.Look at our political culture. What could be more undemocratic than giving allegiance to leaders generation after generation, regardless of how they perform.Exactly how many people do u think look into party manifestos before casting the ballot? Its rank illiteracy thats breeding this culture and unless we dont address that,we cannot uproot the evils of our political system and we cannot have true democracy. It amuses me to hear these kids senselessly talking about democracy when they are carrying out the most undemocratic practice of running a political party like an estate.
But i guess the kids will be made to shout themselves hoarse as long as its serving the interests of the infamous regent,mr 10%!!
