Asif Zardari Mentally Ill?

The Financial Times reports that Asif Ali Zardari “was suffering from severe psychiatric problems as recently as last year, according to court documents filed by his doctors.”

The documents claim that Zardari “was diagnosed with a range of serious illnesses including dementia, major depressive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder in a series of medical reports spanning more than two years.”

A New York psychologist said that Zardari “was unable to remember the birthdays of his wife and children, was persistently apprehensive and had thought about suicide.”

If true, the reports are sad as they would indicate that Zardari experienced great trauma in prison.  More importantly, they are also dangerous as Zardari, if elected president today, would hold a fairly powerful position, which includes chairmanship of Pakistan’s National (nuclear) Command Authority.

But below most of the juicy details, the article states that Zardari’s lawyers used “the medical diagnoses to argue successfully for the postponement of a now-defunct English High Court case in which Pakistan’s government was suing him over alleged corruption.”

In other words, this could be a case of Zardari’s lies coming back to haunt him.  It’s plausible that he concocted psychiatric reports of trauma and mental illness to prevent himself from having to come before a UK court.  A year and a half ago, he was battling corruption charges in multiple countries.  Little did he know that by today, his wife would be dead, he’d be the leading candidate for Pakistan’s presidency, and all his corruption cases would be dropped (the Swiss just closed their last case yesterday).  So the story (an insanity plea of sorts, but not quite) was worth it then.  Let’s see how it impacts him now.

  3. hina says:

he is mentally sick. do the people of pakistan suffer from dementia? how easily can everybody forget that he was once the MOST corrupt person in the country and was considered the reason behind BB’s govt’s failure? sad very sad that Pakistan has come to this, really now Pakistan ka Allah hi hafiz

Nawaz Sharif did not play wisely he took the country down with Musharraf. And for that future will never forgive him, Atzaz and Media.
Before Lal Masjid Incident everything was on track. Yes Musharraf may have screwed up in Lal Masjid but his enemy Nawaz took advantage of his mistake to bring country back to stone age. Have we seen Atzaz on tv lately? Probably ppp has banned him to come on tv.

They (people) said Musharaf was corrupt, evil, blood thirsty dictator who should be thrown away, gotten rid of for the good of the country.

    And, then choose Zardari?

    Are we kidding?
Do we expect the pigs to fly in the sky?

Snake is snake, it will bite no matter what, bitting is its nature.

I am all for giving democracy a chance, but not at the cost of the country. Putting such a disgraceful personality at the Presidency is a slap to all those who voted for the _CHANGE_.

According to a report in NY times, senior officials in the Bush admin are apparently asking Zalmay Khalilzad some angry questions about his unauthorized contacts with Zardari.

This ties in nicely with the report on Mr. Zardari’s mental condition. Zalmay Khalilzad is the same guy who used to regularly badmouth Pakistan and was given a befitting response by our foreign office spokesperson Masood Khan who accused Khalilzad of suffering from attention deficit disorder:

“It would be very helpful if he does a little less by talking less. He seems to be suffering from attention deficit disorder,” Mr Masood Khan said. “In the beginning, there was indignation in Islamabad, but now we are amused, because we think he is pushing the envelope to seek attention,” the foreign office spokesman said.
Pakistan presidential candidate Asif Ali Zardari ’suffering from severe mental problems’
    http://asifalizardari.wordpress.com/2008/08/26/pak istan-presidential-candidate-asif-ali-zardari-suff ering-from-severe-mental-problems/

The following events are bound to follow:

    1) Mr. Zardari gets required number of votes and gets the president.

    2) A dark era begins, where he’ll loot Pakistanis more than ever before.

    3) Zardari Strikes a deal with USA and UK and EU to finish Pakistan’s nuclear program for heavy sums of money

    4) Zardari in an effort to gain control of the nuclear and defense assets, replaces Gen Kayani and appoints some junior general as COAS.

    5) The like minded elite, as mentioned above, gives required access to US.

    6) The neighbouring countries start their interventions into Pakistan, and trying their best to disintegrate (Naooz-u-Billah) our beloved homeland.

I would strongly recommend that we wake up now, or it would be too late to stop this from happening. Zardari has a documents history of violence against his own family (Murtaza Bhutto, BB) and he can never ever be sincere to anyone if he hasnt been sincer to his own in-laws.

  5. Yep. Positively no other way to read it but as lies coming back to haunt.

    Outstanding site, sir. Outstanding.

This is the worst time in Pakistan’s histroy.I have lost sleep since this maniac Zardari has announced his candidancy for the President.Democracy or no democracy, to hell with it all , what democaracy if there is not ountry left , after the future President would sell it overnite.I think , its upto the poeple of pakistan who lack any critical thinkings or political vision as they struggle for a loaf of bread, but more over to the establishment to save the country. Not a lot of people understand how serious and dangerous it could get if this menatally ill person is elected! This is what was left for pakistan to see, Zradari as presidnet.I strongly feel that army would refuse to salute him!I wish they do !!!

  7. sana says:

i will say that zardari is really mentally ill so how can he b th President ?? REALLY miss u MUSHARAF SIR !!!

  8. imran says:

I can only hope for best for Pakistan we love so much. Each of higher authority have done Jail time and are criminal running the country. I strongly believe he kill his wife for her estate/power greed as it was in the Air she was to let him go after she would have elected. If we notice he benfit the most from her death. With over $2 Billion of his networth taken away from Poor pakistani’s is a crim against Nation where most people do not even have voice. Our country is being bomb by American’s to Kill our own people by our own Army is unfair trade and Allah can only save this great country. Zardari must go. Killing our own people for American money will not stop as Zardari is here to rip off country again but this time he will bare bone it. Someone should ask him what the Hell he is going to do with all this Money? Built a golden grave. I hope Imran Khan can come forward at least he love this country and understand people needs. Sure he is not experianced but that is exectly what we need someone who have fresh idea with out outside pressure. We as pakistan should live in hunger but never should Kill our own people for American money. It is ok if we have food twice a day but over time we must built our econemy within to survive. Someone should shake up Zardari/Nawaz who ever steel money to put back to help support our country. Anyways it is a SAD day for Pakistan to have Criminal like Zardari leading this nation. May Allah Bless pakistan.

  9. Haroon Rashid says:

I agree with Imran. It is a sad day for Pakistan. Zardari Must Go.

  10. Shahid Aslam says:

I agree with all who said that it is the sadest day in the history of Pakistan. A party who only obtain 7.5 % of total registered voters in Pakistan has been allowed to run the government. I don’t feel sorry for the people of Pakistan they got what they deserve. Corrupt nations always got corrupt leadership. They elected corrupt people and then expect good thing from them what a stupid nation. I think Zardari possess all qualities to become a president of any Corrupt Nation. Lets see how long he takes to further destablize the country.

  11. ehjaz says:

He played “insanity” to counter the corruption charges and now all of a sudden he is “sane” and be able to lead the country as president. But I dont where he is going to lead it to…………..sigh. I also disagree to many here who thinks that he was the main failure of BB. BB herself is to be blamed, if she was a true and sincere leader and he was corrupt to that extent; then it only happened because she allowed him. She should have been strong enough to get rid of him…. Quaid-i-Azam’s personal life was all disturbed; his wife and daughter both left. Imran Khan’s the same case. So a true leader demonstrate’s by giving the big sacrifices and is never afraid of it. I remember once bb on TV in an interview comparing Mr. Zardari with Nelson Mendala and calling mr. 10% Pakistan’s mendala. Both went in to jail for totally different cause. So in my opinion she was bigger culprit than him if she knew that he was the bad seed; she should have put a stop on it…. but we knw that it wasn’t the case………………..
