Firstly this isn’t the first time this has happened. It isn’t even uncharacteristic of the lawyers movement. Kasuri’s face was spray painted black at point blank, and scalding hot daal was thrown on Naeem Bokhari’s face. There are photographs of angry lawyers caning police vehicles on a number of occasions. Provocateurs were not involved then, and I strongly doubt they were involved here.

Secondly, it is important to remember that this is not the first time that jiyalas have been accused as masquerading as members of the lawyers movement. The last time the allegation was made, it came from Musharraf’s government, and was summarily dismissed.

Thirdly, the evidence cited in terms of the CJ’s meeting with Zardari is pretty thin and circumstantial. I’m not saying that the possibility of what you’re suggesting should be ruled out, but the evidence put forward doesn’t make for a convincing case.
