Suicide Bombing Targets Secular Pashtun Party
A suicide bombing today targeted an Awami National Party (ANP) election rally in Charsadda, North-West Froniter Province. The ANP is a secular, Pashtun nationalist party that has had hostile relations with the central government in Pakistan. Today it can count the jihadis in their midst as enemies. Some analysts have anticipated the ANP picking up some seats from the Jamaat-e Ulama-e Islam faction led by Maulana Fazlur Rahman. And so its reemergence poses a challenge to many. No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but as usual, fingers can and will be pointed in many directions.
